The Number Of Orientations Having No Fixed Tournament

چکیده
Let T be a fixed tournament on k vertices. Let D(n, T ) denote the maximum number of orientations of an n-vertex graph that have no copy of T . We prove that D(n, T ) = 2k−1 for all sufficiently (very) large n, where tk−1(n) is the maximum possible number of edges of a graph on n vertices with no Kk, (determined by Turán’s Theorem). The proof is based on a directed version of Szemerédi’s regularity lemma together with some additional ideas and tools from Extremal Graph Theory, and provides an example of a precise result proved by applying this lemma. For the two possible tournaments with three vertices we obtain separate proofs that avoid the use of the regularity lemma and therefore show that in these cases D(n, T ) = 2bn 2/4c already holds for (relatively) small values of n.

A model for employer’s decision for recruitment
This paper presents a theoretical and empirical analysis of this decision and how it relates to wage setting and the provision of general training. The theoretical framework is a promotion tournament involving M competing firms with heterogeneous productivities, two-level job hierarchies, and a fixed number of managerial positions. This paper also considers an alternative model based on variati...
متن کاملThe number of kings in a multipartite tournament
We show that in any n-partite tournament, where n/> 3, with no transmitters and no 3-kings, the number of 4-kings is at least eight. All n-partite tournaments, where n/>3, having eight 4-kings and no 3-kings are completely characterized. This solves the problem proposed in Koh and Tan (accepted).

Koh and Tan gave a sufficient condition for a 3-partite tournament to have at least one 3-king in [K.M. Koh, B.P. متن کاملDirected domination in oriented hypergraphs
ErdH{o}s [On Sch"utte problem, Math. Gaz. 47 (1963)] proved that every tournament on $n$ vertices has a directed dominating set of at most $log (n+1)$ vertices, where $log$ is the logarithm to base $2$. He also showed that there is a tournament on $n$ vertices with no directed domination set of cardinality less than $log n - 2 log log n + 1$. This notion of directed domination number has been g...
متن کاملEfficient Simulation of a Random Knockout Tournament
We consider the problem of using simulation to efficiently estimate the win probabilities for participants in a general random knockout tournament. Both of our proposed estimators, one based on the notion of “observed survivals” and the other based on conditional expectation and post-stratification, are highly effective in terms of variance reduction when compared to the raw simulation estimato...
